Dr. Peter Connolly

Dr. Peter Connolly is a structural geologist specializing in the numerical simulation of geological systems.
Profession:  Structural Geologist

Responsibilities: Numerical Simulation, Geoscience & IT

In addition to his deep subsurface expertise gained through a career in pure and applied geoscience, Dr. Connolly brings extensive numerical simulation experience to the CPE Team. These skills are helping to refine specific aspects of engine’s design as well as enabling virtual prototyping.

He is particularly excited by the global shallow geothermal opportunities the CPE engine opens up and is looking forward to working with partners and clients on these projects.

Bio:
After gaining his Ph.D at Imperial College, London, Dr. Connolly held several European post-doctoral positions before joining Chevron’s research department in 2005.

At Chevron, he pioneered making numerical simulation of present-day geological systems a mainstream product. Included in many significant technical contributions were projects involving geomechanics in exploration and reservoir quality assurance (patent), depletion risking of fault structures, Enhanced (Engineered) Geothermal System (EGS) pilot and CO2 sequestration.

Since retiring from Chevron in 2018, in addition to his CPE related activities, Dr. Connolly has consulted in IT & geoscience (connollygeo.com) and during 2024-25 participated in an ARPA-E funded Post. Doc. on The Mechanical Enhancement of Hydrogen Recovery from Mafic Rocks.

Dr. Connolly has extensive experience in personnel, project and IP management being technical lead for more than 100 research and service projects totalling >>$75 million.
